Events Calendar

All of these events are open to all graduates of THE WORK. Take one session, or all; just come to the evening events, or just come to the Grad Chat. The choice is yours…

The purpose of Grad Camp is to bring together all the exceptional teachers who we have been blessed to know through their dedication to Pilates and their will to carry on Joe’s work as Jay learned it. You are a special group of people and this is an opportunity to widen your net to feel supported by others like you around the world.

We hope you participate in as much as you wish.

Workshop: Lesser Known Exercises
12:30pm – 3:30pm
Taught by Jay Grimes

Now that you have completed The Work, here is your chance to look at some of the exercises that are not on the assessment lists.  This is a great opportunity to review exercises that you may have seen for the first time with Jay, or to ask him about exercises you have learned outside of Vintage Pilates.  See how Jay evaluates the effectiveness of a “super advanced” or “archival” exercise to determine its appropriateness, and have fun tackling challenging exercises with your colleagues.

Workshop: Springs & Things
4:00pm – 7:00pm
Taught by Karen Frischmann

We know that the quality of the equipment we use absolutely determines our capacity to execute a deep and connected workout. In this workshop, Karen will share her studies and findings about the specific structure of Pilates springs, and how they support your connection to the equipment. You will learn by working out with different springs as well as by comparing information. Your newfound knowledge of how springs work will improve your teaching, and your workout.

$55 Prix Fixe Dinner at Akasha Restaurant, Culver City

Sunday, June 4

Workshop: Sharpen Your Teaching
10:00am – 1:00pm
Taught by Sandy Shimoda

You are at Grad Camp because you continue to aspire toward improving your teaching. You have a lot of information about Pilates, health, fitness, etc. As you assimilate everything you know into your teaching, rewriting your job description will help fine tune that process. You will learn how to specifically apply your experience and interests to your goals in teaching Pilates. With this newfound awareness, you will witness the effect it has while practice teaching on your colleagues.

Lunch on Your Own
1:00pm – 2:00pm

Allow time for make up and hair prep as we will be leaving for the beach directly after Jay’s workshop.

Workshop: Teaching in the Gray
2:00pm – 5:00pm
Taught by Jay Grimes

Jay describes Pilates as being neither black nor white, but many shades of gray. How do you guide your client toward the ideal execution of an exercise without picking on them? How creative should you be in selecting the modifications that serve as stepping stones toward a greater goal? Use this workshop as an opportunity to help you get past your personal stumbling blocks so that you can have more confidence in your teaching.
